Please read about the ways we use your information if you sign up to get information from us.

This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their Personally Identifiable Information is being used online, and to comply with legal requirements that are in place to protect you. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information.  We are a Canadian Church however both Canadian and US rules are referenced in this document because US legislation has been a leader in some areas of this field. We are a registered Canadian Charity, and we operate in Canada.

What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our blog, website, voice agent or app?

Our web sites are primarily to provide information to you.  When you use the site to contact us, we collect the information you provide, in order to contact you.  When registering your email on our site, we use it only to contact you. We do not sell or give your information to any other entities.

When do we collect information?

We collect information from you when you use the online sign up for our mailing lists, or (in the near future we hope) answer specific questions of that nature from our voice agent.  We use the services of services such as Mailchimp, and SurveyMonkey to communicate with you, and they have their own privacy policies which you should investigate.

How do we use your information?

We may use the information we collect from you when you register, sign up for our newsletter, respond to a survey or email communication, in the following ways:

     • To respond to your requests.

     • To personalize your experience on the web site.

     • To send periodic emails regarding our services and events.

     • To follow up with you if you request it.

 

How do we protect your information?

Your personal information is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to our systems, and they are required to keep the information confidential.

 

Third-party disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties, your Personally Identifiable Information provided to us through our online services. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, or serving our online users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential.

We may also release information when it’s release is appropriate to comply with the law, and protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety.

Third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.

Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft

We are using software provided by Google’s voice technology to allow our information to be accessible via smartphone, smart home, smart vehicles and other similar devices.  You can interact with our voice agent (called "St James Fellowship") on our web site or via smart devices. We may in future use Microsoft’s Cortana, Amazon’s Alexa, or Apple’s Siri platforms in similar ways.  Each smart device has their own set of privacy policies which you should investigate prior to using them. If you provide information to us using this technology we will safeguard it in the same way we do if you had provided it directly to the web site.

 

California Online Privacy Protection Act

CalOPPA was the first state law in the US to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require any person or company that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared.  If you are interested in our Church and are in Califoria, we are both amazed and pleased! According to CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

Users can visit our site anonymously.

Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’ and can easily be found on our web site.

You will be notified of any Privacy Policy changes:

  • Here on our Privacy Policy Page.
  • If there is ever a major material change in our use of your information (and we do not anticipate one)  we will inform you via email and provide a reasonable period for you to opt out .

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

We do not specifically communicate with children under the age of 13 years old.

Fair Information Practices

We work hard to keep your information safe. In order to be in line with Fair Information Practices we will take the following responsive action, should a data breach occur within our systems:

CAN SPAM Act

The CAN-SPAM Act is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have emails stopped from being sent to them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.

We collect your email address as above in order to:

     • Send information, respond to inquiries, and other requests or questions.

     • Send you information related to our upcoming events and/or services.

To be in accordance with CANSPAM, we agree to the following
  • Not use false or misleading subjects or email addresses.
  • Include the physical address of the Church.
  • Monitor third-party email marketing services like Surveymonkey and Mailchimp for compliance.
  • Honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests quickly (using the mechanisms built into the above services).
  • Allow users to unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of each email.
If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails follow the instructions at the bottom of each email and we will promptly remove you from ALL correspondence.
